Job Description

We are currently looking for a Data Engineer  for a government department based in Brisbane, CBD. This will be an initial 6 month contract with potential for 2 x 6 month extensions.

The range of deliverables will include:
  • A data warehouse and related data pipelines and systems;
  • Project management documentation and performance reporting;
  • Technical documentation, work process guidelines, standards or specifications.
The scope of works includes:
  • Design and deliver end-to-end data solutions including data warehouse and data pipelines
  • Upskill/training of Structures Management staff in data engineering and cloud technologies.
  • Provide technical coordination and liaison for resolution of technical issues, project information and technical documentation from projects on behalf of Engineering & Technology branch as required.
  • Develop or provide content input to technical documents, guidelines, systems, processes and specifications relevant to the project's above; including scope and quality documentation;
  • It is anticipated that the specialist may be required to provide the following services:
  • Conduct a variety of reviews and/or analysis of existing policies, procedures, systems and general documentation
  •  Researching and developing detailed reports, options papers and recommendations
  • Developing project plans and managing projects to completion
  • Developing and implementing strategies, policies and procedures regarding governance projects
  • Providing briefings and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • 3+ years' experience in a data engineering role building data pipelines and data warehouses in AWS.
  • Experience optimising data pipelines and automating the delivery of data marts which are scalable enterprise wide;
  • Strong data modelling skills (entity based, star schema, snowflake)
  • Ability to design and deliver end-to-end cloud data solutions using a mix of services and technologies including AWS and Azure
  • Experience with AWS technologies: S3, EC2, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, Glue, Redshift/Snowflake;
  • Substantial experience with Python and data analysis libraries such as Pandas and NumPy;
  • Experience with data visualisation tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau.
  • Experience using low-code ETL tools such as Alteryx or Matillion would be beneficial;
  • Demonstrated experience in sourcing data from various databases and warehouses including SQL, NoSQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL databases
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools for Version Control, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery and Infrastructure as Code;
  • Preparation of technical documents, guidelines and specifications, preferably in an infrastructure delivery environment;
  • Problem definition, scoping and data solution design skills, ideally in an engineering, technical or legal policy environment;
  • Intuitive problem-solving skills with the ability to identify objectives and develop strategies for meeting objectives
  • Well-developed communication, presentation and negotiation skills and the ability to communicate and work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Project management skills and ability to work independently with stakeholders and drive solutions from an end-to-end perspective.
  • Ability to develop and deliver test scripts and government data security controls which ensure data integrity and quality
  • Ability to optimise business critical requirements and curate data models which meet business needs and deliver organisational change
