Talent International is working in partnership with a local government organisation based in western Sydney to assist in sourcing a Strategic Planner ( urban & environment planning) to assist the Manager, Team Leaders and Senior Strategic Planners in all facets of Strategic Planning work. A positive attitude and a strong motivation to learn are essential for this role. A graduate would be suitable!

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Urban Planning and Plan Preparation.
  • Ensure familiarity with current planning and development assessment practises, and technical and statutory requirements.
  • Assist with assessment and preparation of planning proposals and amend Council's planning framework (LEPs and DCPs) based on demonstrated strategic thinking and evidence-based analysis and research.
  • Assist with the preparation and implementation of strategic land use planning studies based on demonstrated strategic thinking and evidence-based analysis and research.
  • Undertake research and analysis on strategic planning policies and other matters as directed by the Manager or Team Leaders to assist the Strategic Planning Unit .
  • Provide and maintain current and accurate zoning and associated information for Section Certificates.
  • Other duties as required.
Essential Criteria:
  • Tertiary qualifications (either recently completed or nearing completion) in town planning, or related discipline, with eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia. Graduates are welcome to apply! 
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Environmental Planning as Assessment Act 1979, and other relevant legislation and regulations
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and analytical ability, and understanding of research and survey methods.
  • Demonstrated strong and effective written and verbal communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of current key directions in urban planning theory and practice.
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of a team and contribute to a positive team environment.
Desirable Criteria:
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Arc GIS/GIS mapping application, and/or InDesign.
  • Skills gained from any previous employment including voluntary work experience, and/or part time jobs.
  • Class C Drivers Licence.
